Objectives of World Aids Day December 1

The purpose of the World Aids Day celebration every year to well support the Member States in order to build up the new and effective policies and programmes, to strengthen the health systems as well as to increase the capacity of health sectors towards HIV/AIDS. Some of the main objectives of the World Aids Day are listed below:
  • To guide the member states for globally increasing the prevention and control measures for HIV/AIDS.
  • To offer the member states a technical support for implementing the plan for prevention, care as well as treatment for HIV/AIDS including the testing, counseling of mother for transmitting the infection to the child, STI control and antiretroviral therapy.
  • To aware people about the antiretroviral medicines or other commodities which can help them to fight against HIV/AIDS.
  • To involve the peer groups in the campaign for getting the most effective result.
  • To encourage more students from the schools, universities and social structures to contribute in the competitions organized for the AIDS.
  • To decrease and control the number of patients infected by HIV/AIDS as well as to encourage the peer groups for condom.

Importance of library in the teaching of social science

TOPIC. “ IMPORTANCE OF LIBRARY IN TEACHING SOCIAL SCIENCE
INTRODUCTION
Social science is a crucial component of the school curriculum and it demands a lot of collateral and supplementary reading on the part of both the teachers and the pupil. This necessities the provision of books as well as other resources for the proper teaching and learning of the subject. it is necessary that pupils are taught the techniques of locating relevant reference and resource materials quickly. Assignments should be given in the form of problems. This would compel the pupils to investigate and examine multiple sources. In the course of all search, pupil will assimilate some of the essential facts concerning the learning unit. Moreover, they will be using these facts in a creative and productive way to arrive at their own independent conclusions. Thereby, they will be enriching their knowledge and developing their abilities, skills and interests.
CONTENT
The main objectives of building a social science library
1.       To create interest in the subject.
2.       To create in the mind of the learners intellectual curiosity and disequilibrium and also to help them         equilibrate by gaining new ideas and experience.
3.       To develop in the students a critical attitude and a capacity for independent judgment.
4.       To cultivate in the students a taste for reading in general and related literature in particular.
5.       To acquaint the pupils with the various forms in which social science materials can be consolidated          and presented.
6.       To enable the pupils engage in safe study.
7.       To enable the pupils to prepare projects, assignments, etc.

Importance of library resources for social science
1. BOOK RESOURCE
i. text books: the library should have a variety of most up to date text books on
ii. Unit booklets: the booklets on variety of topics, ranging from family life and, neighborhood to people of the other lands and places, should be available in the library.
iii. Related general books:  inspirational and imaginative literature, particularly tales of adventure, books on children’s hobbies, historical series, animal stories etc...
iv. Reference materials: the library should be fairly well equipped with reference materials. Standard or conventional reference books and non conventional reference books are equally valuable.
2. NON-BOOK RESOURCES
The field of social science is concerned with happening in the local community, the state, the nation and the world. Naturally it becomes essential that books are supplemented by periodicals, pamphlets, news papers and such other materials. These may help the teaching of social science in relation to to the latest developments in the field concerned. The non-book resources should be available in the social science library.
i. periodical: some good periodicals and magazines which through light on current events and various aspects of Indian life covering the domains of art, literature, music, dance et,  Should be available in the library.
ii. Pamphlets: pamphlets published by various government agencies and bureaus for specialized services also very valuable source of information about different aspects of our social, economic and political life. They are generally low priced. Every school library should subscribe for these.
iii. News paper: it is essential that the social science teacher and pupil keep well informed of current events of national and international importance. A news paper and one or two periodical of all India circulation need to be provided.
iv. Internet: in this technological age, internet facility is not a luxury: it is an essential medium even in a secondary school library. It opens unlimited access to the treasure house of knowledge and information. The use of internet needs no sophisticated expertise; a minimum skill for the use of computer is enough. Students can acquire this skill and search for any additional or supplementary information within matter of minutes.

CONCLUSION
                These days, library is considered to be the intellectual laboratory of the school. It is being rightly felt that text books are no longer ‘educational bibles’ to be used as the only source for the study. They need to be supported, supplemented and reinforced by other source of information. A library is the treasure vault of ideas, store-house of information, and the following stream of dynamic knowledge. If social science is to be a living and vital discipline, the library must be accepted as an integral part of its learning.
